What's shaking? My husband.

So much has gone on since the last time I was able to sit down and write a post… I caught my first bass on a family fishing trip that we took with James’ parents. I moved out of my dorm and became an official commuter to VCU. I memorized the names and locations of all 50 US States and the 13 provinces of Canada for a geography test. I witnessed a flash mob. I started yet another diet in hopes of dropping 30 more pounds. I have gotten in the habit of watching Fantasia every night before I go to sleep. Let’s see… what else? Oh yeah. I took my husband to the hospital because he wouldn’t stop having seizures.

You read that right. Seizures. They started a few weeks ago and have gotten pretty bad. They started out as weird “feelings” he was having in his stomach. I started noticing that he was zoning out quite a bit, and after a while he stopped responding to me when he did zone out. Eventually he would zone out and twitch his wrist or hand a little bit, but they continued to worsen. We walked into Applebee’s to have dinner with some of his friends from work and he stopped dead in his tracks. He zoned out again, but this time his arm was jerking violently. For what seemed like minutes, I tried to get him to come out of it. Eventually he did and walked to his friends’ booth like nothing ever happened.

So like the calm and collected person I am… I freaked out.

I called the neurologist he had been referred to and told them they needed to see him immediately. They took him the next morning and performed an EEG and an MRI. His EEG came back abnormal and they diagnosed him with epilepsy. They think that he has had it since he was a kid, and that it was misdiagnosed as a combination of OCD and ADD. Isn’t that scary?! I’m so nervous that one day my child will have something wrong with him and that the doctor will get it wrong. That’s how people die, you know? They started him on medicine, and he said that he already feels better. i am so relieved!

After a very stressful two days, Brother Banks and Brother Kirby came over and gave him a healing blessing. They also offered to give me a blessing of comfort- something I definitely needed. Whenever I get priesthood blessings, the Spirit washes over me the moment I feel hands laid upon my head. I am so grateful that my husband was healthy and worthy enough to participate in the blessing as well. The power of the priesthood is truly an amazing thing.
